FROM THE DESIGN DESK

From an image
To a cufflink

I rebuild the graphic, work through the small details, and specify the design. A lot of decisions happen before an insignia becomes something you can wear.

01 / THE DESIGN WORK

1st Marine Division. From insignia to specification.

    IDENTITY / SOURCE

    01 Start with the identity

The diamond, five stars, and Guadalcanal numeral carry the identity. Those defining details guide the design.

  2. AI-generated line-construction study of the 1st Marine Division insignia geometry
    GEOMETRY / REBUILD

    02 Rebuild with precision

I rebuild the outlines, lettering, and color areas, balancing fine detail with what can stay clear at cufflink scale.

  3. AI-generated dimensional concept study of the 1st Marine Division cufflink, styled as a CAD visualization
    FORM / SPECIFICATION

    03 Specify the finish

The concept calls for a polished gold border, silver letters and stars, and blue and red enamel.

02 / INTO THE METAL

A typical manufacturing route

These illustrations explain the making stages. The exact methods and order depend on the design, finish, and manufacturer.

Have A Unit In Mind?

YOUR UNIT · A NEW DESIGN

A lot of history
One inch to work with

I love hearing which units you want to see next. Turning an insignia into a cufflink means deciding what can stay clear, recognizable, and meaningful at a very small size.

A SMALL CANVAS

I try to keep each design no larger than one inch at its widest or tallest point. That size shapes what I can realistically attempt.

Design target, not an on-screen scale.

Keep the identity

The most recognizable parts of the insignia come first. The goal is to keep the unit’s history and character intact.

Make it read small

Tiny lettering, fine lines, and crowded details may need to be simplified. Some designs work at this size; others may not.

Work through the possibilities

I receive many requests every week and am continually working through them, looking at what I can attempt within that small space.

Have A Unit In Mind?

Send the unit name, a clear insignia image, and the details you feel are essential. If you have a quantity or date in mind, include that too.

A request starts the conversation. It isn’t a production slot or a promised completion date. I’ll assess what’s possible as I work through the queue.

SMALL DETAILS · SHARED HISTORY

FROM ONE MARINE TO ANOTHER

More than
an accessory

Lethal Links began with a love of design and the details that connect us to our service. As an active-duty Marine, I create pieces that reflect the units, people, and milestones worth remembering.

Each insignia carries a history. My job is to preserve its meaning in something you can wear, give, and keep.

Good to know

A few details before you find your pair.

How do I order?

Choose a design and select “Shop On Etsy.” You’ll go directly to its listing in our Etsy shop, where you can see the current price, available options, delivery estimate, and purchase securely.

Do the cufflinks come in a gift box?

Yes. Cufflinks and lapel pins come in a presentation box with a fitted foam insert, ready for gifting and storage.

Can I request a unit or organizational design?

Yes. I aim to keep designs no larger than one inch at their widest or tallest point, so fine details may need simplification. I receive many requests every week and work through what I can realistically attempt. Read about the design approach and how to send a request.

What if a cufflink or pin breaks?

Message us through Etsy, with a photo if possible. We’ll provide a replacement at no cost as long as that design is still produced and available.

How do I care for my cufflinks?

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and store in the presentation box. Avoid prolonged moisture, chemicals, cologne, and abrasive cleaners. Do not use metal polish on the enamel.

Can I wear a unit design in uniform?

MCO 1020.34H, paragraph 3008 permits MSC and above command-level cufflinks with male French-cuff khaki shirts and dress shirts, at the wearer’s option. That permission does not cover every unit level, lapel pins, or Navy uniform wear. Read the uniform reference and original order.
